Microneedling: What is it good for?

Also known as “Collagen Induction Therapy”, Micro-needling utilizes a medical-grade machine that drives tiny “micro” needles into the dermis, creating minuscule channels in the skin. As your skin heals, it releases growth components that boost the healing of the skin and build natural collagen throughout the treatment area.

Micro-needling is ideal for:

  • Aging and sagging skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Hypo and hyper-pigmented skin
  • Age spots
  • Breakout prone skin
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
Micro-needling ideal

As with any treatment, it is recommended you do a series of Micro-needling treatments for maximum benefits. You’ll see changes in the texture and appearance of your skin about a week after your first treatment. But having treatments spaced about 3-4 weeks apart, you’ll see dramatic changes and improvements in the overall texture and appearance of your skin.

How Does Micro-Needling Work and What Does It Do?

How Does Micro-Needling Work

Sterile precision micro-needles are tapped into the skin creating uniform micro-channels. Each pass over the skin will create thousands of micro-channels.

Each micro-channel is surrounded by healthy tissue which enhances the healing process. In response to each micro-injury, an inflammatory healing process begins which initiates the formation of new collagen.

Over time, the repeated healing process will build new collagen, creating healthier skin, and improving the surface texture and the overall appearance of the skin.

Cell nutrients are more readily available after micro-needling which stimulates the healing process of even some of the deeper layers of the skin. The healing and growth you experience after the treatments are where the real positive effect is realized.

Sold individually for $250 or in packages of 6 sessions booked 3-4 weeks apart for $1350 (financing available); Neck Bundle for $1950

What can I expect at my appointment?

When you arrive in our office, you will be taken to our comfortable treatment room. Your skin will be analyzed by our Aesthetican to determine the best course of treatment for your particular needs.

Once your treatment is planned, your skin will be cleansed and prepared for the treatment. The actual microneedling itself only takes about 20 minutes, so your appointment will take approximately one hour with the consultation, numbing cream (while you sit in our massage chair and relax for 20 minutes!) and the treatment itself.

Does micro-needling hurt?

You may feel some slight discomfort in certain areas of your face during your treatment. Clients have described it as feeling like tiny bites or maybe a dull sting or scratchy feeling. Certain areas, such as the forehead and around the mouth can be more sensitive. You can alert your Aesthetician if you have any discomfort. The settings on our device are adjustable, so we can work within your comfort level while still getting the desired results.

If you are apprehensive about the treatment, our office can offer nitrous (laughing gas) to help you relax for your appointment. Topical numbing creams are also applied if you are sensitive to the micro-needling.

What products do you use in your treatments?

At Taylor Drive Facial Aesthetics we use Neocutis, our own brand of medical-grade product as well as Neocutis. In each session we will apply Neocutis aftercare to your skin when your treatment is complete, to hasten healing. It is highly recommended you purchase a bottle to take hom and use for 3-5 days post-treatment as well.

How long should I expect to be in the office?

For your first appointment, plan to arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled time. Once in the room, your service is the length of time that you scheduled for. Our professionals will be available to answer questions after your service as they arise.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing. Note that you will remain clothed in our treatments, so be mindful that your clothing may come in contact with products and solutions. Plan for looser fitting tops with a wide neckline if possible.

How much downtime will there be?

After your micro-needling treatment, you can expect some redness and mild flaking in the first 24-48 hours. This is completely normal. We are intentionally causing “controlled trauma” to the skin to boost your body’s natural production of collagen. This is a controlled injury with really positive and dramatic results for your skin.

Makeup can be used once redness subsides, or the next day after your treatment if need be.

How do I care for my skin after my treatment?

In preparation for your treatment, your clinician will evaluate your skin to determine the most effective combination of daily care products for you.

We highly recommend staying out of the sun and harsh elements as much as possible for the first week after your treatment. Avoid harsh products and use sunscreen daily.

You want to treat your freshly needled skin as an injury, since the skin has openings right after your treatment. Change your pillowcase or anything that will be touching your skin in the first 24-48 hours to keep it as clean as possible to promote healthy healing.

Keep your skin hydrated with fragrance-free moisturizers, and drink a lot of water to encourage healing. Avoid retinols, acids and vigorous exercise on the first 2-3 days post treatment.

What happens to my skin following my Micro-Needling Treatment?

Days 1-3: Your skin will work on cell migration’s early phase to remove bacteria and residue, stimulating the next phase. Your skin may be red and even a little sensitive in this phase. Keeping it clean and hydrated is key.

Days 3-5: New blood vessels are developing, supplying the formation of collagen, which is deposited in the deeper layers of your skin. This collagen is key to making your skin appear smoother, healthier and even thicker as you age.

Days 5-20: With inflammation completely subsided, new fibrous tissue is forming and releasing growth factors and collagen in your skin. This is the rebuilding phase. This is where you will see the most noticeable change in your skins texture and appearance.

Day 20+: Your skin has new collagen and tissues are strengthened to be more pliable and strong. At this phase, another treatment is recommended to start the process over again and get even better results.

The results of Micro-needling or any anti-aging treatments are cumulative. Our skin is always aging, unfortunately, it never stops. But you can work with your professional medical aestheticians to fight the process and age as gracefully as possible. Maintenance is key to keeping your skin healthy in the fight against aging.

Our goal at Taylor Drive Facial Aesthetics is to help you look your best. We strive for a natural look that brings out your confidence and the most beautiful parts of your face, no matter your age.
